A Game Boy orange backlight and bivert mod
Last time I ordered backlights from deadpanrobot, I also got an orange (or amber) one because I thought it would look cool and give a nice retro feel to an already retro console.
Taking off the reflective film was very easy, I think I’ve really got the hang of it now and the installation of the bivert chip went pretty smooth as well. I know where the cables should go, how to route them and the like. Everything worked as expected!

However, when I started putting the case back together I noticed a piece that was a bit molten. I didn’t take the board out of the case during soldering and apparently I wasn’t paying enough attention to where my soldering iron was… Ouch! Luckily it’s invisible during game play and just visible if you look a 90 degree angle. It could have been a lot worse.

Even though I like the orange hue, the backlight seems to be a lot less bright than the white ones I did before. If you’re playing in the dark it doesn’t really matter but in daylight it’s not as nice as I had hoped.

I think this will be the last Game Boy mod for a while but I had good fun, still play some Dr. Mario or Tetris from time to time!
