I love the design of the old iPods, especially the 3rd generation, but unfortunately it doesn’t charge over USB. I bought a second hand 1st generation iPod mini (4Gb) online for about $20. In order to make it cool it had to be upgraded, right? It uses a Microdrive for storage, which is compatible with Compact Flash. It’s 2015 and SD cards are way more common (and cheaper!) than Compact Flash so I settled on an SD to CF adapter from Tarkan. He makes really awesome adapters for upgrading your iPod!

I picked a 64Gb SDXC UHS-1 card by Transcend as it gave me the best bang for the buck. In half a year I’m pretty sure 128Gb will be your best bet.

I followed this great guide by iFixit.

Out comes the old drive, in goes the new!

Once assembled, everything is looking good!
